Splashdown

splashdown tupperware glider in the drink.jpg (485 KB)

The rains had gone, the weather was great, ideal for picking up thermals.
A bit too ideal, so when caught in massive up-draughts and starting to disappear I was too heavy handed in losing altitude and snapped a wing off.
The glider spiralled from height and landed some 500m from our strip, finding the only puddle in the whole paddock.

It rang like a bell

Aerobats are not good when it comes t dead sticks. This Giles had done great service and when the motor quit at low altitude I had a hard time getting around onto the strip,
As you can see I didn’t quite make it but didn’t think I was anywhere near the picnic area at end of our field (rarely used fortunately).
The sound it made, like a bell being rung, told me I had hit something, but to place it between those seat posts was one in a million.
The only damage was the ripped out firewall and bent undercarriage.
She did fly again.

Mid Air’s are Random

DSCI0003_2.jpg (542 KB)

You can never tell the outcome of a mid air.
My little foam GWS Tiger Moth had a mid air with a Sky Raider.
The Tiger managed to catch the wing with the undercarriage which tore out the spar and aileron.
Broke my Prop :-(

Jigsaw Puzzle

Craig was demonstrating how his Gemini could do a REAL flat spin.
It was so real he was unable to stop the spin before the ground got him.
Most disassembled plane I have seen, even the motor was in 3 pieces.

Edge 540T Wildhare RC Crash (Deadstick)

photo-10.JPG (1 MB)

You can never pay too close of attention to the fuel line you buy. Having the wrong line caused this problem. It melted at the exhaust nipple and caused the tank to loose pressure. Too much distance to cover to make it back to the runway without a motor.

Leigh tried so hard for so long to rip the wings off his poor Twister that he finally had to use the ground.

With a more traditional SPAD design Laurie was really challenged the other combat pilots (that’s the pilot box behind the white line).
